What they say...

Thanks for taking care of my mother with all the compassion and love that she deserves! I appreciate the attention you gave her when she was down with Covid! The way you treat her like family is something that gives me confidence that she is in the right hands! Thanks for all the taking care of her physical and mental well-being!

Son of one of our residents.

My daughter, Tanya Mathias, now 54 years old, is mentally challenged and autistic. I know what it is like to care for those suffering from mental and physical disabilities. For years I have worried about “What after me?" A caregiver plays a very important part in the well-being of a patient and it is very difficult to find trusted and reliable caregivers. Upon a visit to Nightingales Centre for Ageing and Alzheimer's, I was pleased to find how diligently and affectionately the patients are taken care of. This inspired me to associate myself with NMT and support their cause. Hence we have called it the Nightingales Trust - Tanya Mathias Eldercare Centre.

We provide a comprehensive range of services for dementia. It includes an outpatient memory clinic, short term or respite care, in-patient admission for assessment and treatment of challenging behaviours and long term residential care.

An initial assessment is done at the Nighingales Centre for Ageing & Alzheimer's in Bangalore to ascertain the diagnosis and the needs of the patient. Once the decide on the type of room, formalities for a short term admission are completed. All long term admissions have to be preceded by a short term admission. This allows us to assess the patient better and also allows the family to ensure that they are getting the best care possible before committing to long term admission.

All rooms at this Centre have a homely setting with 2-3 beds only

There is a daily schedule that is followed at the Centre.
After breakfast all residents are encouraged to join in group exercises and cognitive stimulation activities which continue till afternoon. Following lunch most of them take a short nap before coming down for evening group activities. On certain days of the week we have specialized therapies as pottery, music and dance.

We admit women in all stages of dementia. We also admit patients who have suffered a stroke, fracture, or are suffering from Parkinson’s. We also admit elderly persons with chronic mental illness. We can offer short term respite admissions for normal elders if they feel comfortable in this surrounding.

In a burgeoning city like Bangalore where very few facilities exist for people with dementia, there is a great need for more care centres. We are hugely grateful to Mrs Veronica Mathias for enabling us to start this centre.
